What is Penrith Canoe Club?
Penrith Canoe Club was established in 2012 and has been growing from strength to strength ever since. We currently have over 40 members, and have 3 adult/open teams a ladies team and a youth team, who compete in various leagues and tournaments, as well as people who come down to just improve their kayak skills. We host local tournaments in Penrith and compete in Kendal & Ulverston, with the aim of encouraging more novice players. We enter teams in regional & national open and national ladies leagues and enter summer weekend open tournaments in Hull, Liverpool & London.
We teach people kayak skills, from absolute beginner to expert, with the aim of eventually learning to play canoe polo, or being competent to kayak on the local lakes & rivers. We coach canoe polo skills and have started running beginners river trips.
The club is open to anyone over the age of 14. Youngsters 12 to 14 are welcome if their parent is present. Sorry to under 12’s, the equipment we have is too big for you and we don’t have the supervision levels required, with our voluntary coaches. There is no upper age limit!
Although canoe polo is a competitive sport and we are always striving to improve, we are a very friendly and welcoming club, with a big emphasis on taking part and encouragement.
