A safe kayak tackle
Contact and safety · Rule 10.22
A kayak tackle is contact with another kayak while competing for the ball. Contact that endangers a player, hits their head or body, or targets someone too far from the ball is illegal.
How it works
A kayak tackle is manoeuvring against an opponent's kayak while contesting the ball. Significant contact with the head or body, dangerous spray-deck contact, a hard side impact at roughly a right angle, or tackling away from the ball are among the illegal cases. The tackled opponent must be within three metres of the ball and the tackler must be competing for it.
In a game
An opponent is well away from the ball: do not drive your kayak into theirs to block their route.
Remember
Control speed and angle; safety takes priority over winning possession.
